Art as Therapy: What Happens When You Allow Yourself to Create Freely

There is something that happens when a person sits down to create… without pressure.

I have seen it time and time again.

In my classes, there is often a moment at the beginning where hesitation lives. A quiet uncertainty. A question of “Am I doing this right?”

And then… something shifts.

The lines loosen.
The breath deepens.
The mind quiets.

And what begins to emerge is not just art, but release.

Art, in its purest form, is not about perfection. It is not about performance. It is not about producing something worthy of approval.

It is about allowing.

Allowing yourself to move.
Allowing yourself to express.
Allowing yourself to be present with what is.

Some of the most meaningful moments I have witnessed are not when a piece is “completed,” but when a person realizes they are no longer judging themselves while creating.

That is where the freedom lives.

You do not need to be an artist to experience this.
You only need to be willing.

If you feel called to create, I invite you to begin:

Take a sheet of paper.
Choose a color.
Make a mark.

And then… make another.

No expectations.
No corrections.

Just presence.

You may be surprised at what begins to unfold.

Here are a couple of my e-books created to explore creativity and welcome healing:
